Day at the Zoo

We spent the day at the zoo. OK, not all day... But about 4-5 hours.
I haven't taken my son to the zoo yet, and decided it was the perfect opportunity to go with my sister who just flew in from out of town.

The kids did very well, We actually managed to go through the WHOLE zoo and look at ALL the animals. It was a school day, so it was not as packed as a weekend would be.
The weather was perfect. Not too cold or to hot.

Here are a few pics on what our day looked like

We saw:

Sigma Kabuki... One year later

I have been using it to apply my liquid foundation for about a year now..

On 5/21/12, I was washing my brushes and my kabuki brush completely fell apart.
I was so disappointed, so I decided to contact sigma customer service, and guess what?

A week later, I had a brand new brush in my hand:

Such great customer service!

Thank You Sigma!!

OOTD- Stripes and pink

I really don't know how to pose. Especially when there are people around... I just freeze up.

Out of about 10 pictures, this one is the only one that ended up looking OK, and the only reason is because I happened to look away, at my son (who was sitting on a bench in front of me)
I usually blink, have awkward hands, or make a strange face.... sigh...

Do you have any tips on how to pose in photos?

OOTD Navy and Orange

Top: J Crew, Skirt: H&M, Belt: ASOS, Shoes: Jessica Simpson (old) (similar

Navy stripes go with everything. In this case orange :) This was a very comfortable outfit, and why shouldn't it be, knit is very comfortable. :)

I am looking for a pair of flats which would look very similar to the nude pumps above.
I bought this pair in Target, but they are very nudy/pink and are really uncomfortable.

Do you have a pair of nude flats you love?

I really want these, but $225 is a pretty steep price for flats....

Anyways, I hope you all have a great day

Sunday Shopping...

I sold 3 of my old bags on EBAY, and my funds where finally available. Which meant shopping!

So on Sunday I went on the hunt for the perfect spring/summer bag.
Somethings I was looking for in a bag:

-Be brown or beige
-Have gold hardware
-Preferably leather
-Big enough for me to put a few of the kids things in it and my wallet, phone, keys, makeup bag
-Cross body straps would be wonderful (hands free with the kids)

I found this bag, It was everything I was looking for, however I think I would have loved it more if it was brown, because I am worried that the white leather would get dirty.

I bought it at Macy's, but for some reason it is not available online.

Cross body straps!

I love all the Gold hardware...

The back has a little pocket for my cell phone and keys:

I also picked up a few things at J Crew

Such pretty colors:

I also picked up the Kiehls Dark Spot Serum and spot treatment

That's what my shopping day looked like this Sunday.

Thanks for visiting :)

My Every Day Makeup Routine (before & after)

I can't believe that I am showing this to you, but it is part of reality, so I am not going to hide the fact that I have bad skin. So please don't  leave rude comments, I know my face is bad. As you may have seen from my skincare routine, I do everything I can to take care of it.

I really don't see the point of me just showing you the products I use, I want you to see what these products accomplish in the end.

As you can see from the picture above, I have some breakouts on my chin right now. I have hyper-pigmentation on my cheeks and chin.

I start out with moisturizersunblock
I use the primer on my nose and chin (thats the area where my makeup seems to have the hardest holding on)

What's on my perfume tray?

I am pretty picky about my perfume. So when I find a scent I like, I will stick to it.
In fact, all of the perfumes I have right now have been repurchased over and over again.

You may notice that I do not own any celebrity fragrances or body sprays. I feel that I would rather spend the money on a good perfume, rather then spend my money on cheap perfume/body sprays.

Here is our little tray, nothing big and glamourous:

L'Occitane Citrus Verbena: My one and only spray I use for the spring/summer. It smells like fresh sliced lemons sprinkled with sugar! I am going to have to repurchase this again really soon as I am running low again.

Chanel Chance: I Love this perfume. It is flowery but subtle. I can wear it during the day or night.

Ralph Lauren Romance: This is the first perfume I ever got. I turned 14 and my mom bought it for my birthday. It smells wonderful and reminds me of when I was younger. (hubby repurchased it for me for valentines day)

Jean Paul Gaultier Classique: This perfume is a mixture of rose, orchid and vanilla. It is smells amazing.   This must be my third bottle.

Victor & Rolf 'Flowerbomb: This perfume is  mixture of flowers and tea, it is a very pleasant and clean smell. This is my second bottle. I try to use it very sparingly since it is probably the most expensive perfume I own.

The only other perfume that I can think of, which I want back in my collection is the Stella by Stella McCartney, it is one of my favorites, It is a mixture of rose and amber.  I have already gone through two bottles of it and would love another one :) Hopefully hubby will get me one for my upcoming  birthday.

Do you notice a pattern? Almost all of the perfumes are floral. I never knew that until I read their description. I just go by smell, If I like it then I buy it :)

These are some samples which I liked.
Samples are a great way to try our perfume without buying the whole bottle.
Most of these are from Birchbox, but you can go to the fragrance counter and ask for samples.

Well, that is my very modest perfume collection. Have you tried any of these perfumes? Leave a comment and tell me what your favorite perfume?

My Skin Care Routine

My skin care routine is always changing, I am always looking for something that will miraculously cure my skin.  Let me tell you a little bit about my skin: It is very oily, sensitive and acne prone. I used to have dry patches on my cheeks, however I finally figured out what was causing that, and stopped using that product. I now no longer have dry cheeks :)

I have tried almost every kind of drugstore product out there during the past 10 years of my life. The skin care routine I am using now controls my breakouts during the whole month, however I still get my hormonal acne, which I can not do anything about.

So lets get started:

1. At night, I remove my makeup with a mixture of olive oil/tea tree oil and a clean washcloth
2. I use this face wash morning and night: Kiehl's Blue Gel Cleanser. I love using this with my clarisonic. It feels very tingly on my face and dries out my breakouts without drying my skin.
3. I use this toner morning and night: Kiehl's Ultra Facial oil-free toner.
4. I use this moisturizer morning and night: Kiehl's ultra facial oil-free lotion. I really like this moisturizer, I can honestly say that when I get the any dry patches, this does wonders.
5. I use this sunblock in the mornings, I have to be very careful with my face with my hyper-pigmentation.
6. I use the Kiehl's blue herbal spot treatment on my breakouts. This is by far the best spot treatment I have EVER used. I put it on at night and by morning the breakout is dried up.
7. Facial scrubs: I don't use my facial scrubs as often as I used to (now that I got the clarisonic) I use the  Lush Ocean Salt scrub, which is amazing to dry out any breakouts. The Burts Bees scrub is wonderful, I don't know what it is about it, but it always leaves my face feeling wonderful
8. I started using Argan oil for my hyper-pigmentation. I use it as a serum at night before my moisturizer. I can't say I have noticed any results yet. I will most likely be picking Kiehl's Dark Spot corrector next time I can.
9. For my mask, I usually use Lush masks, however I ran out and have not had any chance to pick more up. I got this sample of Mario Badescu healing and soothing mask. I honestly heals and soothes my face. I will be picking up a full sized one next time I can.

Thats my skin care routine for now. Have you used any of these products? What are your thoughts on them? Do you have the same skin as me? What have you found that works for you?

Thanks for visiting. :)

Organizing the closet again....

So... I re-organized the closet again.

This time I did by color. I used to have it by clothing type: cardigans together, tanks together, button ups together. However I did not like it, I had a hard time finding anything because my closet is so small and cramped.

And as always, every time I organize the closet I always end up with a pile to donate:

How do you organize your closet?

May 2012 Birchbox

I am always eagerly awaiting my monthly birchbox. It's like a little present for me every month.

Let me tell you what birch box is, just in case you are not familiar with it.
It's a monthly subscription service which is $10.00 a month where you get sent 5-6 high-end samples each month. First you take a little survey so they can find out more about your skin, make up likes and dislikes so they know what to send you.

You know how I love trying out new products? Well, with the birch box, I can try high end products without having to buy full size products. If I love the product, then I can go buy it :)

If you are interested in checking it out, go to Birch Box

This month, Birchbox partnered with Gossip Girl. Wahoo! I love gossip girl, I have not missed a single episode.

So lets take a peek inside:

I am glad it's Monday...

I never thought that I would ever say that I am glad that it is Monday, I usually don't ever want the weekend to be over. But this time there is an exception.

We had such a busy weekend, and today things can get back to normal.
The house needs to get cleaned, laundry needs to be done, and we need to recover from the weekend.

On saturday we went to church and then had company over for the rest of the day.

On Sunday we went out to brunch, stroll in downtown, shopping, visit the MIL, and then my grandpa's birthday party.

(going out to brunch)

(waiting for our food)

(stroll in downtown, getting our feet wet)

So you can just imagine the state of my house right now?  Today everything will  get organized and put in its rightful place. As soon as everything like it is supposed to be, I will be able to enjoy my day.

How was your weekend?

OOTD- My favorite striped shirt

Shirt: H&M (old), Skirt: Old Navy, Belt: Target (old), Purse: Coach (thrift store) similar
Shoes: Sperrys (Nordstrom), Fedora: F21

I love stripes. I have about 7 striped shirts, and this one is one of my favorites. I love the lace detailing on the top and the fact it has three quarter length sleeves.

I picked up this skirt at Old Navy this week. (I have been looking for casual skirts I can wear now that it is sunny) I have to say I like it a lot. It is very comfortable. It has a side zipper, so you don't actually  have to button up any buttons. Online it is listed on sale for $24.99, but I got it in store for $16.99.

It goes with everything.  I can imagine all the outfits I can create with it.

Well, I am off to do my grocery shopping now.

Hope you all have a great day!

Progress in the Family Room

There is finally some progress in our family room! (remember this post?)

We decided not to DIY this one ourselves. (mostly because this is hubby's busy season and he just does not have time) However, hubby found an excellent carpenter to help us out with our fireplace.

I have to say, I can not wait to see the finished product!

Stay tuned for more updates :)

Visiting a postpartum mother....

I dropped some food off at my cousins house who just had a baby, and it really got me thinking about when I had my babies. I liked having company over to visit me and see my baby.  However, there were a few cases where I couldn't wait till the company went home.

So I figured that I would do a little list on what to do and not to do when visiting a postpartum mother

1. Call before hand. Don't just show up at the door step. Ask when you can stop by for a brief visit. Most of the time we new moms are in sweats or PJs all day. If we know you are coming we could at-least put some clothes on :).

2. Bring food. Weather it is a casserole you make or a fruit tray you buy. A new mother is always hungry. Don't ask her if you can bring food. Just do it.  Most new moms in our culture are unlikely to ask for help.

3. If you bring food, make sure it is not in any of your plates or tupperware which she needs to give back. The last thing a new mom needs, is to try and remember which plate belongs to whom and when and how she will return it. Use disposable containers. Or if you use tupperware, tell her that she can keep it.

4. Skip the perfume. Little babies are sensitive to smells, you don't want them to get a allergic reaction.

5. Wash your hands before you ask to hold the baby.

6. If you are a smoker, Please don't ask to hold the baby. Last thing a mom wants is to expose her new baby to second hand smoke.

6. Don't give unwanted advice. What my aunts used to say: put the baby down, you are going to spoil him/her. I just want to hold my new baby, It does not mean I am spoiling him/her.
If the mother asks you for your opinion, only then give her your advice.

7. Don't hog the baby. Hold the baby for a few minutes. Then give the baby back. I was most comfortable while holding the baby myself.

8. Ask if you can do anything to help out. Wash that sinkful of dishes, fold some laundry. Pick up the scattered toys.

9. Don't expect the mom to play hostess, fetching you tea or coffee. You are there to see the new baby, not there for lunch. (Unless the mom invites you over to lunch, then ask what you can do to help or hold the baby while she does what she needs to do)

10. Keep your visit brief. The mom is tired. Nursing, cuddling, changing diapers takes all day. Especially if she has little toddlers to take care of as well. Stay 15-30 minutes max.  I remember people overstaying their welcome, it was not pleasant.

If you remember these tips, the mom will be grateful and will return the favor the next time you have a baby.

Hope this is helpful. :)

This weeks project...

I was at Joanne's this week, just browsing... Looking for something to inspire me.

I saw this polka dotted fabric.  I have wanted a polka dotted skirt for such a long time.

I picked up a yard of this polka dotted fabric. It was $9.99 for the yard. Minus the 20%.

So technically this skirt cost me $8!

Not bad, don't you think?

If you want to make yourself a skirt like this, you can follow this tutorial.

Spaghetti Bolognese

I remember making this dish back at home before I got married (7 years ago)
Everyone loved it, and mom asked me to make it almost every Friday.
For some reason I forgot all about this recipe, I was flipping through my recipe journal and found it.
I decided to try it again. I am sure glad I did, Both the kids and the hubby loved it. I will be making this all the time now.

ingredients:

1 lb of beef chopped into bite sized pieces
2 stalks of celery
1 carrot
1 large onion
4 garlic cloves
1 16 oz can of petite diced tomatoes
1 6oz can of tomato paste
1 sprig of rosemary
1 sprig of thyme
1/2 tsp of dried oregano
salt/pepper
cayenne pepper
olive oil
Spaghetti pasta

1. Wash, clean, peel the celery, carrot and onions. Finely chop everything. Mince the garlic.
2. Season the chopped meat with salt and pepper and saute in hot olive oil
3. When meat is browned, add diced vegetables, onions and garlic.
4. Saute for about 3-5 minutes.
5. Add the tomato paste, and saute for another 5 minutes.
6. Add the can of diced tomatoes to the meat mixture. Add 2 cups of hot water, herbs salt and pepper taste.
7. Turn the heat to low and simmer for about 1 1/2 hours. Stirring from time to time.
8. Bring salted water to a boil, and cook the pasta.
9. Drain the pasta in a strainer. Toss with olive oil and salt
10. When the sauce is done cooking, taste and adjust seasoning if needed (add cayenne pepper if you want) Serve on top of the spaghetti.
11. Add grated parmesan cheese if desired.

ENJOY

Flowers from the hubby...

This week has been like a blur, maybe because it was raining and cold the whole week and we didn't get out much. I was feeling a little down. Hubby has been working late and I was very tired.

I guess hubby could sense that I needed a little pick me up :)

As I walked into the kitchen,  I  noticed some flowers and little white box sitting on the counter.
That just put a big smile on my face.
I love it when hubby surprises me and gets me flowers, especially when there is no special occasion. I ran out to the garage and gave my hubby a big kiss.

Aren't they just beautiful:

Here is what was in the little white box.
And let me tell you, it was Delicious. With a capital D.

Thank you Hubby!
