Feeding the Ducks....

I used to come to this particular duck park all the time when I was a kid, and now I brought my own kids here. It gave a warm fuzzy feeling.

There is something very theraputic about this park, especially now in the spring time. Everything seems so calm and serene.

We brought 2 slices of bread for the kids to feed to the ducks.
The little man was thrilled but my 4 year old was scared of the ducks. I don't blame her, those ducks know no boundaries, they see you with bread, they come right up to your feet.

Here is a close up of a pretty duck

Making memories every day...

Do you bring your child/ren to a place where you used to come as a child?
If so, what is this special place?

How I wash my makeup brushes....

I decided to share on how I wash my makeup brushes, I used to use baby shampoo, but had a hard time washing my foundation brushes, especially my flat top kabuki brush. So I changed to using olive oil and dish soap.
The olive oil just melts the makeup off the brushes and the dish soap disinfects the brushes.

So If you want to see a simple and cheap way to wash your brushes which does not require any fancy brush cleaner, keep reading

I wash my brushes once a week
I wash my foundation brush every two uses.

So lets get started, first you need some olive oil dish soap

Take a plate and pour equal parts on it

Wet the brush slightly and stiple it into the oil and soap

Then take the brush and sweep it side to side on your palm.
Keep rinsing and using more oil and soap until the brush is completely clean

Repeat on all of your brushes, add more soap and oil if you need to

To dry your brushes, you need something to elevate your brushes on
Here I used a paper towel roll

I suggest using brush guards like these to keep the shape of your brushes while they dry.

You want to elevate the brushes like this so all the water drains out of the brush and no water goes into the barrel, if the water gets into the barrel, this will cause the glue to weaken which will cause your brushes to shed.

Just let dry for a few hours and then they are ready to use again.

Thank you so much for visiting, tell me in the comments what you use to wash your makeup brushes.

DIY Detachable Collar

I love my accessories, and when I saw this post on Megan Nielsen's blog.
I knew I had to make my own!

I think they turned out pretty cute!
(pictures at the end of the post on how I style these babies)

I used Megan's pattern. However, it is for a scalloped collar, which I did not want.
I just printed the pattern and cut the scallops off.

For the pointed collar, I used the same pattern but made it pointy at the end.

Megan has a detailed post on how to make a detachable collar, but if you
want to see how I made this collar, keep reading.

Cut two of the pieces on the fold:
(if your fabric is light weight, you will need interfacing)

Place the two pieces (right sides together) and pin around

Sew all the way around (about 5/8 from the edge) leaving a small opening

Trim around the collar cutting off the access
I used my pinking shears

Turn collar inside out

Iron the collar

Hand sew the opening shut and hand sew on a hook and eye

Next, embellish whichever way you please
(I was lazy and used sequin glue, I let it dry over night)

Thats it!

Here are just a few ways that I am planning on wearing the collars

Thank you so much for visiting!!

March 2012 Birch Box

I am always eagerly awaiting my monthly birchbox. It's like a little present for me every month.
Let me tell you what birch box is, just in case you are not familiar with it.
It's a monthly subscription service which is $10.00 a month where you get sent 5-6 high-end samples each month. First you take a little survey so they can find out more about your skin, make up likes and dislikes so they know what to send you.

You know how I love trying out new products? Well, with the birch box, I can try high end products without having to buy full size products. If you like the product you can go and buy the full size product at birch box.

If you are interested in checking it out, go to Birch Box

Anyways, here is my March Box:

I love how everything is wrapped up.

A little present for me to open!

First thing I got are three different green tea bags from Skin Smart
I am so excited to try this, I am a big tea drinker and green tea is so good for you
The full box sells at Birch Box for $6.00

Next I got this Neon Turquoise nail polish by Color Club, This is a mini .25 oz
The full size product is .5 oz and sells for $8.00 on birchbox

This is not a color I would wear ( I usually wear pinks and neutrals)
but maybe it would be cute on my toe nails this summer

Next I got a Blemish Clearing Cleanser from Juice Beauty
the sample is .5 oz, the full size product retails for $22.00

I am very excited to try this product. The cleanser contains organic lemon, cherry, and aloe to cleanse and remove impurities and helps prevent blemishes. All organic ingredients.

Next, there is a small sample of this perfume Yogini
the full size bottle retails for $55

I like the scent and I would wear it. Even the hubby liked it.

I am not good at describing scents, so here is the description from the website:
sandalwood, refreshing grapefruit, and sensual Egyptian myrrh. Subtle cues of golden amber, incense, and star jasmine turn each spritz into a mini aromatherapy break.

Next is this powder dry shampoo from LuLu Organics
The full size product is 4 oz and retails for $30.00
I am excited to try this too!

I have very oily hair and have been using a dry shampoo I have picked up at walmart and it really hasn't been doing anything for me. This would be nice to compare, since I only used one other dry shampoo before.

Last, but not least there was a sample of stila eye shadow.
I have never used Stila eye shadow, so I am excited to try it out!

That's my march birch box!

Do I think it is worth it?
I could go get myself a Starbucks coffee and muffin or order a birch box for the same price and try out new products. I choose the second.

Anyways, I will try these products out and hopefully will review them in my next products review.

Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you guys have a great day!

Thrifted Dress Refashion

I went thrifting on Sunday, I found this dress for $6.99
It's originally from Forever 21, size large

(excuse the face with no makeup)

I loved the tulle skirt part, not the top
I feel that it made me look frumpy.
So I decided to turn this dress into a skirt.

All I did, was use my seam ripper and take apart the tulle skirt part from the shirt
I then attached a elastic.

It was really easy and fast, now I have a pretty tulle skirt for $6.99!

Thanks so much for visiting :)

This week in pictures...

We had quite an eventful week (well, as eventful a stay at home mom's week can be) :)
We had a few sunny days this week and took advantage of them.

Hubby worked, so the kids and I went to the park

Two of my siblings' birthdays are next week,
so I went to the mall with the kids to find them birthday presents.
After shopping we played a little at the play area:

We were at the mall for a few hours and were hungry, so we stopped by to eat at the Noodle & Co:

mmmm..... Pasta Fresca:

Went to one of my favorite stores (Cotton Babies) to find a baby shower gift for a friend
The diapers are so pretty, too bad I have to much already :(

It was our 7 year anniversary on Tuesday.
Hubby took me out to a romantic dinner

Now that was yummy!!

We went to the Park again and stopped by the pet store to look at the pets.
Little Em wants a pet. (I do not want any pets) So we just went there to look around.

Little man loved watching the birds:

Went grocery shopping and stocked up the fridge:

Went to my cousins baby shower and had a great time with the girls!

Enjoying my beautiful tulips that hubby got me for our anniversary.
So simple, yet so pretty:

That wraps our week up.

Thanks for visiting :)
